“Pomegranate fruit borer hole with rotting patch on fruit”
Organic Control of Pomegranate Fruit Borer (Anar Butterfly)
If your pomegranate fruit shows a small hole + black/brown rotting patch and later drops, it is most commonly fruit borer (anar butterfly) damage. The larva enters the fruit, feeds inside, and rotting starts.
Quick Symptoms

Small entry hole on fruit
Brown/black rotting patch expands
Fruit becomes soft, smells bad, drops early
More during fruit development stage
Best Organic Management (Simple Step-by-Step)
1) Sanitation (No.1 Control)
Collect damaged fruits every 2–3 days
Destroy them outside the field (don’t leave near compost pit)
Keep orchard floor clean and reduce weeds
2) Fruit Bagging (Best Organic “Shield”)
When fruit reaches ~5 cm size, cover each fruit with a protective bag
Make 2–3 tiny holes for air flow (reduces fungal rots)
Bagging gives premium-grade fruits with less pest damage
3) Neem / Botanical Sprays (Organic Spray Option)
Use either:
NSKE 5% or
Neem oil 3%
Repeat after 15 days if moth activity continues.
Spray tip: evening time + good coverage on fruit clusters.
4) Biological Control (Highly Recommended)
Release Trichogramma chilonis (egg parasitoid) regularly during flowering and early fruit set as per supplier guidance.
5) Monitoring with Light Trap
Install a light trap to monitor adult activity and decide the right time for protective actions.
One-For night-flying pests monitoring, AEDAA Solar Insect Trap is a simple add-on to strengthen orchard IPM.
Organic “Save This Checklist”
✅ Remove damaged fruits frequently
✅ Bag fruits at ~5 cm size
✅ NSKE 5% / Neem oil 3% (repeat after 15 days if needed)
